About School

The divine message was sent to the CMC sisters of Trissur province through the very person of Rt. Rev.Bp. Januarius Palathuruthiyil to quench the dire need of English Education in the land of Chandrapur in Maharashtra in the year 1969. The Blessed Sacrament was installed in the ‘Suchak Nivas’ where the sisters were given the accommodation. The first members were Sr.Modesta, Sr.Dhamshene, Sr.Didimus and Sr.Nilus. The inception of the English medium School in Suchak Nivas, brought great joy to all the people of Chandrapur. The formless land was purchased from Mr.C.G.Patel and the sisters enjoyed the great support of the people of this area. Enormous was the struggles the pioneers faced in this new mission. Mother Modesta and Sr.Theopholis and other sisters took great risk in the construction of the new school building and the formation of the Ghnan Seva Mandal Trust. School was shifted to the newly constructed building on July 16th 1972. All throughout the years they have experienced the protecting and providing hands of the Lord with them. A catholic community was slowly sprouting in the presence of our sisters. The newly built class rooms were converted to parish church on Sundays and Fr. Joseph Koikkara was the parish priest. As the years passed Mount Carmel Convent High School Chandrapur became the reputed school of Chandrapur District with increasing number of students. The excellent education imparted with the fear of God and the character formation through co-curricular activities gifted great and eminent personalities to the society, country and the world.

The Silver Jubilee of the school was celebrated in the year 1994. A library and computer lab was constructed as the memorial of Silver Jubilee. The school soars ever high with the wings of dedication and commitment to excellence. In the year 2010 the syllabus was changed to CBSE since there was a high demand from the parents and had a new phase of progress in this fast changing world with all interactive class rooms. The School was honoured as the best performing School in the field of sports by the DSO Chandrapur and was awarded with the Cheque of two laks consecutively three years from the year 2017. School could secure many national and international awards in sports especially in Karate, Roll ball, and volley ball and roller skating. The school could obtain even a place in the Guinness book of records as two of her students of Std. IX performed twenty four hours non-stop skating in the national Level competitions. Other two students from std V have one south Asian awards in the karate competitions in the year 2019. And recently Mount Carmel team has won the national level karate competition and is selected for the south Asian competition which will be held in Malaysia in April 2020.

The Golden Jubilee of the school was celebrated in the year 2019. A Jubilee memorial Auditorium was constructed to mark the Jubilee year. Mount Carmel is strengthened and supported by strong alumni association and cooperative parents. The pillars of this prestigious institution are the dynamic staff who work tirelessly to achieve the Vision and the goal of this temple of Knowledge. Even today Mount Carmel Convent High School is greatly contributing to the development of the society involving the students in their social responsibilities. She is ever guided by her heavenly patroness our Lady of Mount Carmel to keep her motto – LEAD US LIGHT - in the hearts of many generations who have gone through her portal.

Casting a glance over the years that have gone by, we cannot but thank God for the Blessings received by the management, staff, students, parents and the society. We need to thank God for the visionaries who dreamt, the pioneers who launched the project and all those who laboured hard all through the past sixty years for the empowerment of women. The unique way, in which the less privileged sections of the society shared in the celebrations during the jubilee year, will go down not only in the history of school, but in the memory of those who joyfully shared them. The involvement of the staff in the planning of the programme, the wholehearted co-operation of the children, their parents and the staff is a blessing on all those who participated in the project. May the 'education of the heart' that has been a special event of the jubilee celebration, continue to grow with our children even when they leave the institution. I pray God's Blessings on the management and the staff during the coming years. May God give them the light, the guidance and commitment to plan and carry out the education that will prepare women leaders that the modern society will need and look for, during the coming years. We ask Mary, the Mother of Carmel and the patron of the school to play her role of watching over those who enter the portals of the campus.
